Wine Advocate 90 points - Attractive notes of tangerines, lemon blossom and fresh apple skin emerge from the medium-bodied 2012 Chardonnay from Carneros. This delicious, fruit-laded effort exhibits good acidity, no obvious oak and a long finish. Drink this pretty, well-made Chardonnay over the next 4-5 years. (Oct 2014)
The 2011 estate-bottled Chardonnay continues the winery's 40-year-old tradition of producing truly elegant wines of balance and complexity. It is pale gold in color with aromas of fresh apples, pineapple and pear accented with rich, tropical fruit flavors and a subtle touch of citrus. Full-bodied yet vibrant and culminating with a long finish, it is a perfect accompaniment to poultry, seafood or for sipping on its own.
|Clos Du Val, French for "small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by John Goelet and French winemaker Bernard Portet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals, 150 acres in the now legendary Stags Leap District and 180 acres in the cool Carneros District were chosen, from which Clos Du Val Winery, a true Napa Valley icon, was born. Today, for Clos Du Val winemakers John Clews and Kristy Melton, it’s the fruit from these distinctive vineyards that serves as the foundation for crafting the balanced, terroir-driven wines of elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.
